Sebastian studied at Kiel University of Applied Sciences, Germany from where he holds a Master of Science degree in Information Technology. In his course of studies, he joined the team of Prof. Magedanz in 2007 and became a student research assistant at the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems (FOKUS) in the competence center Next Generation Network Infrastructures (NGNI), Berlin, Germany. His master thesis investigated next generation messaging infrastructures and originated in close cooperation with FOKUS and TU Berlin.

Since 2007 Sebastian has been working in parallel in industry and research projects for Next Generation Networks (NGNs) and Service Delivery Platforms (SDP). He leads the development of a converged messaging infrastructure within the Open IMS Playground and the complementary Open SOA Telco Playground, where he provided maintenance, support and training for the resulting messaging enabler and additional components at customer's/partner's on-site testbed deployments. Furthermore, he worked on case studies, feasibility studies and prototypes based on GSMA's Rich Communication Suite (RCS) project.
In 2010 Sebastian joined the chair "Architekturen der Vermittlungsknoten (AV)", where he has assumed control of the secure identity research domain "SCIFIS", and he is currently working on the SI-KUZ project. In this context, he is also managing maintenance and deployment of related components and technologies at Fraunhofer Institute FOKUS such as FOKUS GBA and the Identity Management (IdM) framework GUIDE respectively. Furthermore, Sebastian collaborates with FOKUS in terms of contributing his expertise to the EU-FP7 ICT project UbiPOL and industry projects in the context of NGNs at FOKUS. Besides these activities, he is coordinating the chair's prospective Future Internet research activities in the EU-FP7 ICT Future Internet Research and Experimental Facilities (FIRE) objective, and finally, he is responsible for managing and organizing conferences as well as workshops hosted or attended by the AV chair.


Sebastian is currently investigating next generation AAA infrastructures, user-centric identity management as well as security and privacy issues of digital identity management with specific emphasize on Telco identities and emerging requirements within the evolution of NGNs towards the Future Internet (FI). He is looking into holistic concepts for integration eIdentity and identity management solutions into NGN-based telecommunication infrastructures, taking mobile domains into consideration, as well.
Due to his previous research activities, Sebastian has strong expertise and good skills in NGN-based Converged Communications from the middleware perspective. In this context, his research topics focused on global, open, converged, and ubiquitous IP-based messaging systems and architectures, where he continuously tracks both evolving developments in terms of GSMA RCS, OMA CPM, 3GPP MMTel as well as ongoing progress in 4G networks, namely 3GPP Evolved Packet Core (EPC) and LTE, such as VoLTE and VoLGA.
