Welcome to the Chair "Next Generation Networks (AV)"
This chair, also called "Architekturen der Vermittlungsknoten (AV)" in German, is led by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Magedanz and was founded 2004. It is funded by the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and is part of the Institute for Telecommunication Systems within the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Technische Universität Berlin.
AV maintains a strong cooperation with the Fraunhofer FOKUS business unit Software-based Networks (NGNI) , which is also directed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Magedanz . It this context this chair performs applied research and development activities in the field of converging service and network environments, looking for the migration from legacy telecommunication infrastructures towards integrated service environments. Namely, the current research areas include:
- 5th Generation Mobile Networks (5G) , including Software Defined Networks (SDN): lead by Dr. Marius Corici
- Network Function Virtualization (NFV) , including Management and Orchestration (MANO): lead by Michael Pauls
- Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) , including Edge/Fog Computing, Semantic Interoperability and Industrial Connectivity (TSN, LPWAN): lead by Dr. Alexander Willner
We are active in various national and European research projects in order to develop related software toolkits and testbed infrastructures for efficient proof of concept validation of innovative research ideas. In addition, AV offers related lectures, seminars and projects for Bachelor, Master, and PhD students in the above-mentioned fields. International students are very welcome - all courses are presented in English.
