Curriculum Vitae

Alexander Willner is the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) group manager at the chair of Next Generation Networks (AV) at the Technical University Berlin (TUB) and at the business unit Software-based Networks (NGNI) at the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems (FOKUS). He is working with his groups in various research projects in the area of Machine to Machine (M2M) communication and the Internet of Things (IoT). With a focus on moving towards the realization of the Fog Computing paradigm based on semantic annotations and the orchestration of microservices, particular attention is being paid to the fields of application Smart Manufacturing and Industrie 4.0.

Prior research positions include the University Bonn, he holds an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. (Dr.-Ing.) in computer science from the University Göttingen and the Technical University Berlin respectively. His research interests are on semantics-enabled distributed information systems, linked data, the Graph-of-Everything, communication middleware and service-oriented microservice architectures. He is active in relevant standardization activities (such as the VDI/VDE-GMA AG 7.20 or W3C WoT) and alliances (such as the bitkom AK "Industrie 4.0 Interoperabilität") and holds according course offerings at the Technical University Berlin and in the past at the Humboldt University of Berlin as well.

At various occasions Dr. Willner also acts as ambassador for the science capital Berlin.
