AV with Fraunhofer FOKUS NGNI

Given its strong collaboration with research institutions AV has expertise in the field of open source tools and solutions developed during a series of NGN-Infrastructure and Testbed projects. AV cooperates closely with the FOKUS competence center Next Generation Network Infrastructures (NGNI) on the development of NGN control platforms (OpenEPC, OpenIMS, etc.) and also on providing technical supports for the FUSECO Playground. In particular, AV cooperates closely with the IIoT Center on the development of industrial connectivity platforms (OpenMTC, OpenIoTFog, etc.) and also on providing technical supports for the IIoT Lab.

The current cooperation activities with Fraunhofer Institut FOKUS are the development of new concepts and testbeds in the area of heterogeneous core networks include the development of the OpenEPC toolkit. OpenEPC is a software implementation inspired by the innovative all-IP aspects of the 3GPP Evolved Packet Core (EPC). Furthermore, AV and FOKUS are currently developing the OpenMTC platform that provides a standard compliant middleware platform for machine-to-machine oriented applications and services. While supporting application domain driven scenarios such as eHealth and Smart City services, OpenMTC will rely on advanced networking capabilities provided by our highly successful 3GPP Evolved Packet Core (EPC) implementation.

The developed tools are deployed in the NGN2FI-EvoLab and the FUSECO Playground that are provided by AV and FOKUS in order for proof of concept realizations of innovative architectures and services for international operators and manufacturers.
