Open Source Tool Collection
Open source software (OSS) now has strong ecosystems covering embedded software components, middleware, enterprise software, Internet services, and other technologies, and it’s widely adopted by corporations in different industries, not only to reduce costs but also to deliver systems faster and make them more secure.
While OSS provide significant opportunity in term of low costs, reducing implementation time and flexibility in choosing vendors, preventing users from becoming overly dependent on technology or support, it presents a fundamental risk that raises from the intellectual property rights, unobliging support, and the lack of documentation. Additionally, configuration is in many cases complex and not very flexible. Both understanding of the desired system’s requirements and deeply investigations for available tools futures and limitations, must be prior to the decision of adopting the use of OSS in building testbeds.
We at AV and FOKUS believe that open source is a real opportunity to build reliably testbeds in reasonable cost.
