The 5th Generation of mobile networks (5G) aims to
provide a new infrastructure for an extremely high number of
diversified devices and applications. A new player has entered
the communication market: The machines not only communicate with
humans and among each other, but also take advantage from the new
internet and telecommunication developments to learn from each other
and to build the base for the industry of tomorrow, also known as
Industry 4.0.
Within the 5G environment a huge number of
devices will be connected to the network, using different
communication requirements (delay/capacity), different communication
patterns (on exceptional events, regular, continuous), different
reliability requirements and information trust levels. Easy remote
management/administration/calibration will also be needed. Open5G-MTC
is a practical implementation based on ETSIM2M, oneM2M and OMA LWM2M
standards with the main target of achieving more flexibility,
programmability, resilience, faster response and security within a 5G
environment for the Machine to Machine (M2M) and Internet of Things
(IOT) communication.
Open5G-MTC is an R&D
prototype, providing advanced features for device and connectivity
management of a very large number of wireless devices (human
controlled or machines). It enables the establishment of relevant
device oriented testbeds including:
Connectivity and transport
management for virtualised network infrastructures,
End-to-end
service establishment,
Security and reliability of
communication,
Device management and automation,
Cost
effective support for x1000 devices testing and evaluation.
Open
5G-MTC can be integrated with the OpenMTC toolkits for adding M2M
functionality and protocols.
