AV cooperates closely with the chair Open Distributed Systems (ODS)  where Prof. Magedanz also gives lectures.
The chair AV offers lectures and project courses to graduated students aiming for their Diploma or Master in the fields of electrical engineering, computer sciences, technical computer sciences, or industrial engineering.
Starting with summer 2017 our curriculum will be changed. Dedicated lectures on 5G ("5th Generation Mobile Networks") and IIoT ("Industrial Internet of Things") will be offered in summer only, whereas the "5G and IIoT Project" will be offered in both summer and winter. This project course is performed in close cooperation with Fraunhofer FOKUS and offers challenging development tasks eventually contributing to the globally recognized state of the art AV/FOKUS technology testbeds / labs. Ideally Students will listen to 1-2 lectures and practice their gained knowledge in 1-2 consecutive project courses, which provides a solid foundation for a Diploma or Master thesis in these highly interesting field of converging networks and services.
- All courses are presented in English, however, the IIoT course will be presented in German starting in 2020.

Generation Mobile Networks
|This lecture treats
fundamental concepts, architectures, protocols and interfaces of
current and future open services platforms – based on converging
network technologies such as wireless and wired telecommunication
networks, 5th Generation Mobile Networks and Software-based networks.
Main topics are 5G, Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Software
Defined Networks (SDN). Graduates of this lecture are
endued with competences in the following areas: services, protocols,
and elements of infrastructures within classical wired and mobile
circuit-switched telecommunication networks, 5th Generation Mobile
Networks and Software-based networks.|

|In this module already
known topics from the module “5th Generations Mobile Networks” are
applied in practice. With a view to the 5G evolution towards 6G and
emerging technologies, selected topics in the context of 5G and 6G
such as Network Function Virtualization (NFV), Software Defined
Networks (SDN), Edge Computing, Network Slicing, Backhaul
Communication, Data Exchange, Data-oriented Network Optimization,
Intent-based Management, Zero Touch, Network Performance Management,
Requirement-based Network Customization, Network Automation using
ML/AI algorithms, 5G Campus Networks and Nomadic Private Networks are
treated in detail.|
Graduates of this module are endued with competences in the following areas: services, protocols, and elements of infrastructures within classical wired and mobile telecommunication networks, Software-based networks, 5G mobile networks or mobile networks of the emerging sixth generation (6G). Furthermore, they can apply this knowledge in practice and work on development tasks in small groups, document the procedures and present the results. They can independently conduct the necessary literature research and develop own concepts.
